Tribute to Tippie

by Nat Williams

Tippie was the name of that dog I had as I was growing up in Mattituck, Long Island, NY. That's ninety miles east of NYC. Freight trains came out daily from Jamaica in the Queens. They finished in Greenport, thirteen miles east of Mattituck and returned to Jamaica the same day. So Tippie and I used to ride in their engine for the round trip from Mattituck to Greenport. They did switching in each town along the way.  Tippie also loved to go swimming with me in a fresh water lake 1½ miles from our home. Whenever I went under, he would swim around in circles, looking for me.

On my last trip on the freight train, Tippie must have eaten something with poison in it while he was wandering around in Greenport. He died in my arms as I sat on the fireman's seat on the return to Mattituck.

God bless Tippie forever! He will always be in my heart!

Love Hugs, Nat & Margie

But He Did not make it back to me...;(

DOGS WILL WAIT FOREVER FOR HIS HUMAN FAMILY TO RETURN.
THEY DO NOT KNOW DEATH ONLY LOVE.
DOGS NEVER BEAT YOU OR STARVE YOU, THEY JUST
UNDERSTAND LOVE YOU.
THIS IS WHY I TRY SO HARD TO HAVE EVERYONE/ANYONE
ADOPT FROM A SHELTER.
NOT ONLY DO YOU GIVE A LOVING DOG A HOME, A FAMILY TO LOVE AND LOVE HIM, YOU MAKE ROOM FOR
ANOTHER PET IN A SHELTER.
PLEASE THINK ABOUT ADDING TO YOUR FAMILY WITH
A FURRY PET TO LOVE. ADOPT FROM A SHELTER.
(A CAT WILL WAIT FOR YOU TOO AND GREET YOU AT
THE DOOR WITH THE SAME LOVE.)
THANK YOU, PASTOR LINDA

A Salute to Lucca

Editorial Summary

A Salute to Lucca – By Maria Goodavage

Meet military K-9 hero Lucca, a smart German shepherd–Belgian Malinois mix, who lost her left front leg leading Special Forces soldiers through IED-laden ground in Afghanistan in March 2012. An inside look at her bravery on the battlefield, and her civilian life today. www.parade.com

More about Marine Dog – Lucca
Two Heroes!
Two Heroes!
Marine dog, Lucca, was given a wonderful tribute in the Parade Sunday magazine.  After more than 400 missions in Afghanistan, no one had been hurt by an IED when they were with her.  She was the only one that the Green Berets felt comfortable hugging after a tough day.
Mamma Lucca, as she is nicknamed, was injured herself.  Handler Col. Juan “Rod” Rodriguez quickly applied a tourniquet and she was air-lifted to one veterinary team after another in all-out attempts to save her life.  They succeeded, but Lucca lost her left-front leg in the action.  You can see her honorary Purple Heart on her harness.  Today she lives with her original trainer, Gunnery Sgt. Chris Willingham and his family.  She continues to serve at VA hospitals and in schools.
Could someone please explain to me WHY this Hero’s Purple Heart is considered HONORARY??

Liberty author pens second book from pets' perspective

from LibertyTribune.com
Posted: Thursday, September 18, 2014 12:00 am
For the second summer in a row, Teresa Herbic has released a book of animal stories for children. The Liberty author’s most recent title is “Dog Tales,” eight stories told through the perspectives of eight dogs adopted over the years by Herbic’s family. The book is also based on the Beatitudes — eight blessings from the Sermon on the Mount described in the Book of Matthew. “There are stories of love, humility, struggles, adoption, childhood lessons, and some history lessons woven throughout about Missouri and Kansas,” Herbic said. Dog Tales Coming Soon!

Have you heard about the amazing dogs who are featured in Dog Tales? You will soon. Dog Tales is scheduled to publish in June 2014. Keep posted by tuning in regularly to this blog!

Picture showing Newfoundland
Meet Rocky! Rocky's story is featured in Dog Tales.
Remember Rocky Balboa? Well, this is Rocky, too. This Rocky is a fuzzy, rambunctious fellow. He came to his family as a puppy and an surprise addition. Since he was an unexpected arrival, he pulled out all of the classic Rocky charms: sad eyes, slobbery kisses, and lots of fancy costume-wearing fun. Like Rocky, the boxer in the hit movie, this Rocky felt like an underdog, but soon realized with perseverance and heart, God will bless such a fellow. Hear all about Rocky and other adopted dogs in Ambassador International's June release of this Beatitudes page-turner!
